CUSTOM OPEN STAIRCASE

Sky open staircase with brass finish

A custom open staircase that dialogues with the horizon

There are custom staircases that connect two floors. And then there are those that dissolve into the space, that let the light pass through, that seem suspended between floor and ceiling without touching anything solid. The Sky staircase is one of these. An open staircase in iron with brass finish, suspended treads that float with the lightness of golden blades before one of the most iconic urban views in the world. In a contemporary space of this quality, the staircase is not just a functional element: it is the measure of everything around it.

Finish used for this project

The load-bearing structure is clad in dark burnished brushed brass, a finish developed to measure for this project: when the standard catalogue is not enough, Metalbril creates custom colourings and treatments to dialogue with the materials and context of each work. The tread cladding is instead in satin brass, a finish that brings warm tones ranging from golden to amber bronze. It is a finish that dialogues perfectly with the black marble base and the tempered glass balustrade, creating a system of materials where every element enhances the quality of the others. Iron worked with this finish bears no resemblance to the raw iron of industrial carpentry: it is a transformed metal, with a precious visual presence and a materiality that is perceived immediately at close range.

The Sky staircase is born from a design and production process entirely managed by Metalbril, from 3D modelling to carpentry processing, from TIG welding to the final finish, through to on-site installation. The open structure of the treads, without risers and with exposed metal profiles, required laser cutting and welding work of great precision to guarantee the geometric cleanliness of the joints and the visual lightness of the structure. The tempered glass balustrade is integrated into the metal profiles with satin stainless steel connectors, for a visual continuity that never interrupts the overall transparency of the staircase.
