Bespoke cantilevered staircase with a composition of three metal finishes
This bespoke cantilevered staircase comes from a precise idea: turning the link between two levels into a visual composition. The steps project into the space with the lightness of a floating staircase, while the composition of metal finishes builds a geometric rhythm inspired by the rigorous language of Mondrian. Three Metalbril finishes interact in a carefully balanced play of contrasts. The O81-AC Overseas oxidised steel brings the depth of blue, the V00-AC_AL Blood of Judas painted steel ignites the composition with an intense red, while the V68-Q Frosted Brass adds luminous reflections with its ice-effect texture. Each panel enters the overall design as a studied element, where every finish enhances the others.
The staircase comes from a design and production process managed entirely by Metalbril, from 3D modelling to metal fabrication, from TIG welding to the final finish, through to on-site installation. The cantilevered structure, with steps emerging from the wall like horizontal blades, required cutting and welding of great precision to ensure the geometric cleanliness of the composition. The composition of metal finishes was created by combining panels with three different treatments, each developed on a sample and calibrated for its own chromatic weight within the design. Oxidised steel, painted steel and brass come together in a balance where every tone finds its exact position, in a direct reference to neoplastic compositions.
Finishes used for this project
This work is a metal staircase for interiors where the finish does not accompany the project but defines it. The three Metalbril finishes build a chromatic system in which the deep blue of the oxidised steel, the vibrant red of the painted steel and the bright reflections of the frosted brass balance one another with precision. The choice to alternate matte, intense and reflective surfaces generates a depth that shifts with the light and the viewing angle. Applied to the staircase, these finishes turn the element into a truly expressive surface. A modern metal staircase where technique, colour and design culture merge into a result of striking visual impact.
